We missed the northern lights We stood instead under the stars and marvelled Three generations In awe and expectation Counting constellations Turning our heads up Towards the winking eye of the moon And the shimmer of the stars Anticipation soared As twilight turned to ink Small eyes held by wonder Theirs a beautiful lens A lesson in how to view life As the minutes tick by My eyes adjust My mind wanders to rest the world And the others stood under the stars Or those stuck in darkness and fear Here I stand surrounded by beauty And yet I am small, grateful In the shadow of the fragility Of the impermanence And transience of being We give in to the realisation That we missed them That once in a lifetime chance Dashed by the brilliance and unpredictability of happenstance And yet… I savour the moments we spent As we held our breath together
Thank you so much for reading.
I'm there! Thank you for transporting me. And gently holding the dissonance too.
Beautiful! (We missed them too!) xx
